In the summer of the year 1991, Togolese residing in Chicago, started monthly meetings that led to the creation of ATC in June 1992. These Togolese were inspired by a common determination to meet their socio-economic needs through a charitable association. Living abroad and far from their homeland, they came together to build a community which will serve as a hub and a safe place for their brothers and sisters. ATC is a registered organization with the great state of Illinois and has it 501(c)3.

Association of Togolese in Chicagoland:
- endeavors to identify ways and means to provide charitable assistance to needy members of the Togoles community;
- promotes social, cultural, economic, educational and scientific knowledge and awareness among the members;
- enhances public awareness of the culture and history of Togo and its people through various educational seminars, workshops, conferences and publications;
- addresses issues of discrimination facing Togolese and facilitate equity and fairness in the areas of immigration, employment, health, social services and economic development;
- promotes and cultivates fraternal spirit and greater understanding among its members;
- provides assistance to members of the Togolese community who may be facing hardship due to health, social, financial and legal problems;
- brings together in a spirit of friendship and brotherhood, with fond memories, Togolese and their descendants residing in Chicagoland.
